PLEXUS FILMS

Plexus Films is a female run production company based in Cape Town. Director Producer team Miki Redelinghuys and Lauren Groenewald are committed to telling stories with empathy and honesty. Plexus has produced feature length, documentary series and short documentaries for a range of broadcasters including the SABC, Al Jazeera, PBS International and TV2 in Norway.

We have also created content for NGO’s and social justice groups. Our films have screened and been awarded at festivals around the world.

In 2015 we received a South African Film and Television award for our Factual series on SABC 2, as well as producing a SAFTA Best Director award for documentary. We aim to produce quality documentaries, while at the same time contributing to industry development, as such we have mentored many first time filmmakers and collaborate with learning institutions in this field.

MIKI REDELINGHUYS - Camera Director
Miki started her career in 1994 as a freelance director. Since 2000 she has been based in Cape Town, producing diverse documentary content. As a camera director, she is passionate about telling stories for change, that explore the rich complexity of humanity.

LAUREN GROENEWALD - Producer
Lauren Groenewald started her career in broadcast journalism in 1991 and has moved into documentary film, which is now the primary focus of her work.
She also mentors emerging filmmakers at Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking.

STHA YENI - Researcher and Narrator
Whilst working for Centre for Law and Society at the University of Cape Town Stha focused on how rural development initiatives impact on people’s livelihoods. She has studied the violation of rural land rights and supported locally-driven forms of resistance.

GUY HUBBARD - Camera 
Guy Hubbard is a documentary filmmaker based in Cape Town, South Africa. He works across the African continent, producing, filming and editing social documentaries.

KHALID SHAMIS - Editor
Having worked in the film industries of the UK, Middle East and Southern Africa, Khalid runs his production company tubafilms from Cape Town. Khalid has lectured at the WITS University in Johannesburg, holds the South African Guild of Editors acronym and has acquired numerous awards for his work. His feature length documentary, Imam and I, was received to critical acclaim.

JABU MSOMI - SOUND
Ask Jabu Msomi where he hasn’t worked in the world and he’ll just look at you and smile. As one of South Africa’s most sought after location sound recordists he has pretty much seen and done it all. He has worked across all genres from documentary series to reality shows, live broadcasts, TV drama, feature films, commercials, music videos and wildlife.
